The Waking Fire is the most complete book I’ve read in quite a while. It has everything one can ask for in a good novel.
We get 3 separate point of views with 3 fleshed out, well written and, immensely like-able protagonists.
Like all great books this cannot be classified into a single genre.
We have a spy mission: Lizanne is a spy and has to venture behind enemy lines to find information for her country,  a treasure hunt: Claydon starts out as a small time criminal and is on a quest to redeem his life and discover legends and myths  and finally we have swashbuckling battles on land and sea: Hilemore is our third protagonist who is on a Military tour which turns out to be much more than he expected.
It’s fascinating how the three POVs are interrelated.
The magic system reminded me a little of Mistborn and was well developed. The narration and writing were tight and there wasn’t a single dull moment.
The last line was amazing and promises a lot for the future books.

Seems like an interesting read as per the review. Will certainly pick this one.
