This is the final installment of the wonderful Draconis Memoria series.
It’s not very often that a series ends as well as it begins. Anthony Ryan did it though, and with aplomb.
The quality of the series was consistent throughout and I loved how the various story arcs were wrapped up.
As expected the intensity is ratcheted up across the world with the all the story arcs finally converging and culminating in an epic battle.
We get a great mix of action, thrills, breathtaking discoveries and also a lot of cool inventions. We also have air battles in addition to the action on the lands and seas.
Anthony Ryan has the ability to keep the readers engaged through the conflicts and wars. He excels at writing action scenes. This is not an easy feat, especially with long, drawn out action scenes.
I’m not generally a huge fan of the Steampunk genre but this series has converted me. I loved the gadgets and how the characters used them. It actually adds to the story.
All the POVs were exceptional and varied as the previous books. If anything they got better. The antagonists’ POVs were really good too.
It’s difficult to write more without any spoilers but I’ll give you a warning. Do not start the last few chapters if you have to wake up early the next morning. This book is exceptionally difficult to put down.
I found this to be a fantastic end to an exceptional trilogy. This series goes to the top of my favorites pile.
